Hope so too. I have now two separate profiles in Windows, work and play. Maybe that will help keep me focused and prevent them blocks forming.

you spent ages reinstalling all your softwares....

thta's why 80% of the software on my PC is no-install standalone stuff (CE included).

i just have to make a backup copy on a DVD before formatting and then a simple copy and paste to restore it

The power of Linux system is the exact reason why I want to switch. I've used Linux before but only for testing purposes. After I bought the Buffalo NAS which now runs Debian 24/7, I've been very eager to switch my work environment to Linux.

Ubuntu seems like a nice ready package but I think I'll just install minimal Debian and build up from that. It's a good way to learn more about Linux ;) .

Hey,

Congrats to your great acquisition!

And it's nice to hear your decided to give Linux a try. About seven months ago, I myself switched to Kubuntu while having Windows installed on another partition. I have been so impressed by the sheer power of a Linux system that I couldn't wait a full week to banish Windows to a virtual environment and since then Kubuntu was dedicated full hard drive space. I have never regretted having done this step and recently, I also thought about installing Debian.

I do hope you will make the same encouraging experiences that I have made so far so the switch-over will not be difficult to you. You may also contact me at anytime if you need some help operating Ubuntu. ;)

I've been using a Seagate harddrive for 4 years in my server 24/7 and it hasn't failed on me yet, so they are indeed very reliable.

Ah, OK. Last time I looked at the hardware front, SATA was a new thing. I didn't even know that SATA 2 was already in use.

It seems there is some controversy over this drive series. And as the picture above shows, I have the "slower" firmware (3.AAK). More about the issue can be found here:

"so I’m not getting it’s full speed though."

To be fair, the 300mb/s is very theoretical. The real speed increase isn't at all something to brag about. Not for average usage anyway.

Anywho, looking forward to your future releases of CE. Couldn't possibly live without it!

Thanks for the work so far =)
