It’s been a bit slower week for a change. Been busy with some other stuff so didn’t have much time to do work with CE. I added full row selection option and a drop stack panel. The drop stack component is made by Jim from mustangpeak. It works fine but I’m thinking there could be some improvements done. For example when multiple items is dragged to the stack, they could be grouped in a tree so you could access individual files too. Also at the moment thumbnails are not working but I haven’t yet checked what’s up with that. Anyway, the drop stack panel is just a sketch at the moment so ideas are welcome.
I decided that version 0.91 will include the plugin support. I really want to get rid of the built-in text editor and replace it with a plugin. Not sure of the exact schedule yet. Also the SVN snapshots should start rolling soon. I’ve written some scripts to automate everything. Only thing that is missing is a script that extracts the log messages and uploads everything to the server. I’ll try to write it this weekend.
Anyway, have a nice weekend. Here’s the latest build
CubicExplorer 0.90.0.998 (SVN Snapshot)
Installer (1.6MB)
Zip (1.5MB)

The drop stack is a really great feature
Thanks, thanks!!
By the way, I like the wallpaper (558)!!!
Heh, that’s one of my favorites too.
Hi Again
Could I make a couple of suggestions?
1. In list mode, long file names get truncated. Would it be possible for Cubic Explorer to automatically (perhaps configurable) adjust the column width to the length of the longest file name?
2. Could we have another window with a command prompt (perhaps dockable, or at the bottom underneath everything else?)Or if not, perhaps right click on a folder and ‘open command prompt here’
Thanks
1. I do have plans to do this but don’t yet know when.
2. There is a command prompt button in CE. Right click in toolbar and select customizer. From tools category you can drag the command prompt button in any toolbar.
Thank you !
That’s my first words. I was looking for filters ability on Explorer, and you gave me more.
I have compared yours with other free explorer-alternatives. You win ^^, giving all interesting features: Breadcrumbs (thanks), filters (thanks), Dropstack (think you’re the only one on this), Bookmarks (thanks), Path copying (thanks), Languages (thanks so much!), Tabs (thanks).
It seems not to be possible to manually specify a given filter (like “myserver*.log”). But the automatic filters are 1/original and 2/quick to use. Still, i’m giving you this suggestion.
And Bravo !
Hi Cyril, and thanks
Filters are going to get better. There are many advanced options planned, including manual filters.
Indeed there is, I just didn’t notice that! Cool. Is there any way to assign a keyboard shortcut to it?
Not at the moment, I’m still working on that.
CE is a great file manager !!!
; )
One suggestion: is it possible to add a split panel feature?
It would be fine to manage two or three directory in the same window.
Thanks
Great News ! And what an amount of work you’re doing…
Please be careful. CE is indeed a good tool, also beause it is clear and intuitive enough.
Too many features may obfuscate the interface..
But i’m confident.
Thanks for your time and your answers Marko. One more request
)
Could we have a ‘New Folder’ option as part of the right click context menu?
@alterego
Yes, split panel is planned. Don’t yet know the development schedule though.
@Cyril
Yeah, I hear what you are saying. Keeping the interface clean is and has always been the top priority. Also it’s the number one factor that slows down development. Making user friendly UI is actually really hard, but at the end it’s worth it
@Gogs
At some point I’ll add an option to customize the right click menu same way as toolbars can be customized. But until then, you can drag the “New Folder” button from the Customizer into some toolbar or use Ctrl+N shortcut to create new folders.
Another little … request: small icons on toolbar?
= )
Thank you for patience.
I’m a big fan of this File Manager. I use this from you USB drive as I’m in the IT industry and never really at the same computer very long. I carry quite a few portable applications on my drive and it would be extremely useful if there we’re some mechanism for associating file extensions to applications on the same drive. These would override the OS associations if they were setup.
I realize this isn’t a simple addition, but it would help you remove the need for the built in editor as the end user could use the editor of his choice for any extension.
Thank you for one of the most useful applications in my IT tool kit.
I do have plans to add more this type of portability support into CE. Customizable right click menus, custom file associations, custom file/folder icons…etc. Although I don’t use CE as a portable app currently, I’ve always liked that type of flexibility so I’m happy to add such functionality.
I don’t have any schedule planned yet though so can’t say when it’s available.
Here are little things i’ve noted, maybe it’ll interest you :
- Can’t use a environment variable in the address bar, such as %TEMP%.
- Bookmarks seems not to be specific to user*.
- Can’t sort files if not in the “Details” view. (what the… Hey, i’ve just seen the “always show sort columns” option)
- Happy using it ! ^^
* i know it seems opposite to Chad’s note. In fact it’s not important to me, just thought you like to hear about.
- I’ll need to rewrite the address bar, it’s not working very well. Also I’ll add better support for environment (and custom) variables before version 1.0.
- I am going to add full support for multiple users soon, maybe for version 0.91 or 0.92. It’s going to be up to the user to decide where settings get stored. Portability will always be part of CE.
- Yeah, the sorting/grouping is still a bit incomplete. There should be also a way to change the sorting from menu or toolbar.
r u releasing a new snapshot this weekens?
