Notes (week 25) – Happy Midsummer!

Slowly moving along. I managed to defend the flu from taking over my body. Although, it put on a good fight and tried to infect my bronchus. Anyway, I fix few bugs this week. Also I added an option to toggle if new tab (opened with middle click etc.) should be selected. Plus, there are new icons for tab related actions.

Happy Midsummer to everyone!

i know this is probably a matter of mastes but i don’t like very much the new “open, close tab” icons. i think the old ones were better

Yeah, it’s a matter of taste. I’ve always hated the old tab icons.

But I’m not that happy with these new once’s either. I needed an icon for the “Duplicate Tab” action, so I ended up drawing new icons for the “open, close” actions also. Anyway, all icons you see currently are just sketches and not the final ones.

I appreciate the feedback :)

de gustibus non disputandum est

i think the old icons were very nice.

however, in the future it should be possible to select custom icons as well.

Thanks for the update. This is a really good Explorer replacement. My biggest issue with the software is that the views are global and not folder specific. Also, sorts and views change while clicking through tabs. If this were fixed, CE would be my full-time explorer. Am I missing a setting possibly?

I’ve brought the issue up already, there are plans to make folder specific views (I want this for My Computer sorting into groups by type). Keep in mind this is beta software with many features planned :) .

Another feature request: Re-open closed tabs ! That comes in real handy…

Also in the present release you can close down all the tabs and sit with a tabless interface. Clicking on the folders on the left panel in such a case doesn’t do anything… the right panel remains blank. This can get pretty confusing for new users. So I suggest, when someone closes all the tabs, leave 1 default tab open without pointing to any specific folder…

- Yeah, I’ve been missing the “Undo Close Tab” from FireFox. We’ll definitely need to add similar feature to CE. Added in todo list (#171).

- You are right about the “all tabs closed” issue. Previous CE versions didn’t allow all tabs to be closed. I guess I forget about it when I changed the tab bar. Added in todo list (#172).

Here’s one more idea. Have some right-click / middle-click Duplicate Tab feature. Not the config option which makes any newly opened tab a duplicate of the current one – coz that’s not what you may always want. But on some occasions I do feel the need to quick duplicate one of the tabs and that’s where this is going to come in mighty handy.

If you double click on a tab, it’s duplicated ;) .

Whoops!! My bad. Missed out on that one :D Will it be asking for too much if you can include an option for switching between double-click and a single click of the middle mouse button?

Rocking stuff you got going here :)

That option will be available but I’m not yet sure when. I’m planning to add similar features as FireFox’s TabMixPlus addon has.
