When I needed to manage my time better I found a simple list of tasks I needed to accomplish, plus the date and time they needed to be done by (and sorted by order of due date) helped motivate me and kept me on track, and helped me not forget anything. >_>

Additional fine-granted milestones of larger tasks also helped keep me on course but I rarely actually put those on the list ("OK this 10 page paper is due in two weeks, I'll do a page a day and then I'll have plenty of time to proofread and fix any issues.").

Such a heavyweight app wouldn't be good for me, glad it helps you though. But if it starts to overwhelm you a simple list may suffice.
