Notes (week 35-41) – Break and new search engine

So, I took little break which happens every fall. I’ve had some other stuff I needed to take care of and also I needed some time to rest. This week I started to work with CE again. I rewrote the search feature from scratch. It now has a new more powerful engine and lot’s of advanced search options including content search. I haven’t done much testing yet so there might be some bugs left.

Next I will finish the DualView implementation. I haven’t yet checked the forum but I’ll go through all posts next week.

Hello,
Great search engine improvement !
I have perhaps not seen but :
Is is possible to open the containing folder of a found file? Most of the search engines have this on the Right click menu.
CubicExplorer is a very good program, thank you!

@TiX

This new snapshot doesn’t have that option. I’ll add it in next snapshot.

new search engine rocks

however you must have messed up something in the file manager engine…

when i browse a folder with “list” view style, file icons “disappear” when i move left, right, up and down trough colums… (either with arrow keys or with mouse) . sometimes an entire column of file vanishes…

this makes CE unusable in list view mode

i reproduced it on 2 different PCs (XP and Vista

Thanks guys :)

@Tommy
I see the bug. It looks like it has something to do with Threaded Images. If you turn that off from the advanced settings then it should work. However, it seems that the scroll range is too big so if you scroll too far, all icons go off screen.

Jim has done lot’s of work in some components. I’ll need to make sure those changes work properly in CE.

any idea Marko?
that bug is preventing me to upgrade

15.
19/10/2009 at 16:28.

@Tommy

It’s working for me in XP. If I remember correctly, you are using Vista so it might be different in there.

My engine is starting a bit slowly so it will take some time until I’m on full speed with snapshots and notes.

very strange… I have the same bug on a Vista PC and on an XP PC as well…. :(

i reproduce the bug on Vista and XP Home Edition either with custom settings from my previous CE snapshot or with defualt settings from dowloaded CE

@Tommy
I noticed on mine that if the info bubble pops up when mousing over a file, it also blanks out all of the files underneath it. Perhaps some kind of a refresh issue. By the way, do you want to create a topic in the forum, to track this issue?

Hey Marko,
Good to see the upgraded search. Using Windows 7 here and facing the same bugs as Tommy and firefox_97.

Cheers,

the strange thing is that the “vanishing files” bug is affecting many users and many OS except Marko’s PC…
quite strange…

Thanks

Hello,

Great Light box. Would please post your wonderful lightbox code? Is it all css or javascript?

Thanks!

And one more factor… the file browsing speed has become terrible. I don’t know if anyone else has faced this issue – but I use CE on 3 different comps and on each, when I open folders with a sizable number of files (40+), it takes quite a while (10 secs+) for the file list to turn up… till then CE goes into wait mode.

Never faced such a lag in any earlier versions of CE. I’m actually thinking of downgrading at this point till everythign’s back to normal :D

Hey Cubic Reality dude/s

I really love Cubic Explorer… like lots.
Is there a way/can you implement a thing where it replaces Windows Explorer? because CE is awesome.

I have been using CE for a while now, thanks for the great product!

Hi everyone, I updated the snapshot. The “disappearing items” bug is fixed.

Sorry about the delay, I’m still having trouble starting work. I’ll try to release new snapshot later this week.

CE is such a wonderful software you cannot leave it unfinished!!!

34.
25/11/2009 at 05:10.

Thanks for the update. Everything works smooth now. Even the slow browsing speed I had reported earlier on has improved dramatically with the solving of the vanishing files bug. Good to see CE back in shape.

Still awaiting an Undo Closed Tab feature. That’ll be really useful.

All the best!

does anyone know what happened. why is there no blogposts. did I miss anythng?

37.
16/12/2009 at 17:02.

@soegel
I have had a burnout some years ago and it’s still effecting my ability to work. It’s at worst in fall and winter due to “Seasonal Affective Disorder”.

Anyway, CE is not dead, I’m not dead. I’m trying to write a new post to reflect some thoughts about CE’s future and plans.
