So, I’ve been taking it easy for the last few weeks. About 7 years ago I suffered from burnout. My tolerance for pressure dropped to zero and has stayed there ever since. If the stress gets too high, my body/mind can’t handle it. That’s the reason for these breaks. Usually they happen in fall and winter. I am however working to solve this problem. I’ve tried many different work methods and keep developing new ones so these breaks wouldn’t happen so often. Also I’m in a rehabilitation program so I’m still optimistic in solving this issue.
While I’m resting I usually do music and/or videos as making them helps release stress. Here’s one example:

CubicExplorer 2.0 and CubicCore
For the past 2 months I’ve been doing some heavy thinking about CE’s future. More specifically I’ve been collecting ideas for CE 2.0. The picture is getting more clearer everyday. At the moment CE is just a bunch of compromises and far from what I envisioned it to be. To make CE work as it should, it’s necessary to start from a blank page and rewrite everything. Of course that’s not literally true because there’s over 80000 lines of code in CE, so I can reuse many things.
CE 2.0 will have completely different way of functioning. Actually, CE will be just a bunch of scripts and templates. All the hard work is done in a separate platform I named CubicCore. Everything will be dynamically created and based on scripts and plug-ins, so there will be unlimited number of ways you can customize CE. Also the UI should be way more stable and hang free because all the real work is done in background.
CubicExplorer 0.90-1.0+ and coming weeks
The development of CE 2.0 will happen side by side with CE 1.0. Also, CE 1.0 will act as a testing ground for modules that will be used in CE 2.0. By modules I mean features like QuickView, FileSearch, TextEditor…etc. So there should be steady stream of snapshots coming even when I’m working with CE 2.0. However, the development of CE 2.0 won’t start until I have released CE 0.90 final. At the moment only piece missing from it is the Version Manager. After that I’ll polish every feature.
Anyway, things are moving slowly but surely. At the moment my main goal is to get back on the horse and start writing some code. I’ve already spent few days in the office so things are looking good. To ease up the stress, I’ve decided to work only 4 days per week. Hopefully that will eliminate these longer breaks.

Good luck with CE2! Sounds promising. Can’t wait to get the first glimpse
Cheers,
m^e
Wishing more good luck! I agree that 5 days a week could definitely be too much. If you get to a stressful decision point, perhaps you could ask some of us. I haven’t written any delphi, but have other experience, and might be able to think through a sticky point, I am sure others have the same, or more experience. I there an open source or free way to code delphi?
Hey! the 1st thing must be your health, so take your time… As firefox_97 says, count on us for anything. I’ve been coding in delphi for the past 7 years up to now, so feel free to borrow some of my time if you need to.
Keep up the good work!
The first concern must be your health. Take your time, we’ll be waiting for you…
As firefox_97 has said, count on me too. I’ve been coding delphi for the last 7 years and programming for more than 15. If you need some help, just ask.
Keep up the great work!
Thanks guys.
Help is certainly welcome. Since CE 2.0 will be based on user editable scripts, there will be a way for users to contribute new features and functions. At the moment I’m not yet sure what language I’ll be using for scripting. Probably there’s going to be more generic solution with support for many different languages. Pascal however will be the first one that I’ll implement because that’s what I know best.
@firefox_97
. CE will have internal editors for writing and testing scripts so no extra tools will be needed to do that.
Free/Open way to code Delphi/Pascal is project called Lazarus. It uses Free Pascal compiler which can compile to many different platforms including Linux and Mac. CE 2.0 should support those platforms also
I’m sure you will get out of the tunnel and will write some amazing code to make CE the best file manager of the net
Good on you, Marko, nice words. As someone has pointed out above, if your health is not taken care of then it’s all for nothing. I don’t think we want you to rush anything.
Take care

I also become stressed very easily.
I control stress reducing the amount of information around me during work (the task seems to be more simple, because you concentrate on solution).
Also, I put every possible information needed for a single task (programming, debugging) on a piece of paper to save memory at maximum.
It works for me, I do not know if it works for you…
I love the Rage against the Machine music for the Video!! I miss Rage….
@Theep
I know what you mean. I also like to keep things simple to help me concentrate better. However, I’m very poor in keeping notes. I’ll need to do something about that because I believe notes could help a lot.
@firefox_97
Yeah, me too.
I am just like you and I use these tools to help me keeping my mind clear and focused on important things :
Todo list (http://www.abstractspoon.com/)
Freeplan (http://freeplane.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page)
If it helps …
Continue your excellent job on CE !
@TiX
Thanks for the tips. I’ve used FreeMind, have to take a look at that Freeplane.
Hey Take it easy.
Cubic explorer is one great app !!
Maybe try that http://eiriu-eolas.org/ ?
It’s free.
I used to burn out very badly, especially in the winter (Vitamin D helps though), until I started a few relaxation exercise and breathing techniques.
Wish you best of luck mate, this is one fantastic product.
I was hoping there would be some bug fixes for instance saving the layout of the Views in Details viewtype.
It resets everytime its launched. Although there are some features that we’re all hoping to see, for instance replacing the regular explorer shell yet keeping the standard taskbar or perhaps a new layout?
speed, stability whilst maintaining the entire usable features.
Keep up the great job, as for the stress, just keep taking your multivitamins (www.xtend-life.com – best in the world at the moment(scientifically)). Also don’t forget to get plenty of sunshine and clear your mind every now and again as a programmer one tends to require a clean head purged of all the worldy views.
I can only imagine how CE2 will turn out.
Superb product again, by far the best!

Hello, I just wanted to tell you a big thanks for your work. I like how simple but effective CE is
I like this program. Here are my suggestions for needed improvements after my first glimpse. A single click option would be nice in the fileview list. In Windows Explorer when I click on my Logitech Quickcam the image appears, in CE it doesn’t. In RealVNC there is a feature for sending and fetching files from the server; thereafter the Windows clipboard functions apply. CE doesn’t recognize a change in the clipboard status and thus doesn’t highlight Paste in the context menu.
Many thanks for this wonderful program.
