Moving towards RC 3 which is scheduled for next Friday. This week I’ve done small changes here and there, fixed few bugs and added couple things. Runningwaterpro from the forum, requested to make CE open file/folder property sheet when you Alt + LeftDoubleClick over it. Because Alt + LeftClick is already in use, I had to use Alt + RightClick instead.
Also there are now options to make CE open new tab by default when you click a bookmark or folder in FolderPanel. When it’s used together with "Reuse already open tabs", it makes quite an interesting way of navigating the system .

Back from the vacation, a break which was very welcome. This week mainly went in trying to solve all reported bugs. Some of them got fixed, some of them need testing to see if they are fixed. Rest of the bugs need revisiting. I added one new option for tabs, it’s the "Reuse already open tabs" toggle. Basically it means when you open a folder in a tab (middle click), and that folder is already open in another tab, CE will switch to that old tab instead of opening a new one. Also CE will now make itself visible when folders are opened from command line.

Those who have had problems when connecting network or other drives, please send a bug report if CE still keeps crashing.

PS. Anyone know how to make Samba work with Windows (or vice versa) when using user as security mode? I can get the share mode to work but not user mode.

Slowly moving along. I managed to defend the flu from taking over my body. Although, it put on a good fight and tried to infect my bronchus. Anyway, I fix few bugs this week. Also I added an option to toggle if new tab (opened with middle click etc.) should be selected. Plus, there are new icons for tab related actions.

I got my energy back, no more sleepiness . Unfortunately I’ve been busy all week with other things so I didn’t have much time to work with CE. However, there are few bugs fixed so I’ll upload SVN snapshot. At least the shutdown bug (#133) needs testing so GTHK or anyone else suffering from this bug, please let me know if it’s fixed now.

On other notes, I made pretty sweet deal on some used office furniture. Tomorrow I’ll start to build my new office. It remains to be seen how much time it takes to finish it. I’m not yet sure about the 0.90 RC 2 release, scheduled for next Friday. There are few bugs left that need much work/time.

Man, feels like a steamroller has run over me. Yesterday I was fixing my sister’s car (Renault Clio -94). Since I had to work in all sort of weird positions, pretty much every muscle is now aching. I ended up fighting with the car for about 12 hours. All I can say is, I hate that car!

Anyway, I did manage to do some work earlier this week. Few bug fixes here and there. Some fine tuning on the tab bar painting and I changed the ViewStyle drop menu so that it’s icon changes depending on the current view style. Also grouping is now available, although it need’s some more work. For example, there should be a way to collapse/expand all groups. You can find a "Group By" button from the Customizer. Also it’s present in the background menu.

New week, new release. All reported bugs should be fixed (with few exceptions). I made the tab bar to remember some customizations. It’s working properly only when the actions are placed on the left side from tabs. If items are placed after tabs (right side), they are moved to left side when CE is restarted. Also it’s not yet possible to align items on the right border. These are things we’ll have to live with for now. I’ll have to do quite a lot of work to make the tab bar component suite my needs. So these issues will move to version 0.91.

I also added few new options for the tab bar. You can now choose what folder will be used for new tabs. Note, at the moment virtual folders won’t work (My Computer… etc.). I’ll fix that on 0.91.

It’s been quite productive week. I fixed few bugs and changed the tab bar to another component. Changing the tab bar was fairly big job so there might be bugs left. This new bar let’s you customize it similarly as toolbars can be customized. However, this release doesn’t yet fully support it and there are some bugs still left in it. Also I added a “change tab on drag over” feature. I’ll add the “drop to tab” support for next release.

I meant to release 0.90 rc1 this weekend but due to the new tab bar, more testing is needed. There won’t be anymore features added in 0.90, only bug fixes. I’m hoping to release rc1 next weekend and 0.90 final within few days from that.

Fairly slow week again but there was some progress. I managed to find the cause for many refresh issues that were reported. There was a bug in the FoldersPanel which caused those issues and some others. So I had to make some changes on how it works. While I was doing those changes, I also added similar timer as WE has when you navigate with keyboard. Now it waits for 500ms before changing the folder. You can also use SPACE or ENTER to change the folder immediately.

Anyway, it looks like summer finally came in Finland, 20°C and sunny .

*** UPDATE 5.5.2008 ***
There was a bug in folder panel which prevented a folder change if the "Auto expand tree" setting was disabled. Also there was a bug which might cause CE to crash at startup. Those bugs are now fixed and the download is updated (new version is 0.90.0.1029).

It’s still been quite a busy week but I did manage to fix few bugs. Hopefully next week is better. I really want to get the 0.90 final out and start working with plugin support. Anyway, you can see all changes in the SVN Log. I made FileSearch to use the same layout as FileView does. TextEditor still has it’s own layout. In the future, toolbars will have a global layout so that their position wont change when user flips between different tab types.

Oh by the way, I’m now using WordPress plugin called WP Super Cache to ease up the server load. So if you see something strange or missing pages, let me know.

No progress this week at all. I’ve been too busy with some other stuff in my life. Good news is that once everything settles, I have a lot time to focus on CE. There has been reports on some bugs that need further testing so the next version will be 0.90 beta 4. My aim is to release it next Friday. Anyway, I’ll keep it short this week.
